How Does Staging Work?? | Find the Best Savings Account ...

Before putting your property on the market, stage your property first. Home staging is the act of preparing a private residence for sale in the real estate marketplace. The goal of is to get the highest number of potential buyers in order to sell a property quickly and profitably. Home staging is where people hire home stagers to prepare their property for sale to achieve the best sale price and in effect try to sell the property quickly on the market.

What makes homes in Seattle feel inviting is not the furniture, the size or the decorations, but it?s the comfort brought about by the property?s neatness and orderliness. Since the economy is tough and the real estate market has intense competition, home sellers are turning to and taking advantage of home staging to sell their homes quickly and profitably.

Selling a home can be a real challenge. The question for agents and Realtors is how they can sell the property quickly, but it?s easy as pie for home stagers. What makes them different is their creativity. For them, an unfurnished, cluttered, and disorganized home looks empty, and unappealing, and cold which gives off a negative impression to home buyers.

First impression lasts so impress your buyers with great curb appeal. Remember that taking as much out of from the kitchen, master bedroom and master bath is useless if the front porch is a mess. Even if you have superb interiors, the kind that potential buyers would like to have, you still cannot change the buyer?s perception they receive from the first impression from the outside of your house.

This means that in home selling and buying, home staging startsbegins from having everything in good shape, repaired, neat, clean and free of clutter. The size of the home is not the only thing that matter in home buying and home selling. A home buyer will consider calling modest homes for sale in Pearland TX his/her home if everything is in its place rather than living in a tornado-hit mansion.

A's look to stay focused against Ichiro in Japan

By JIM ARMSTRONG

AP Sports Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 4:44 a.m. ET March 24, 2012

TOKYO (AP) -The Oakland Athletics aren't bothered that Ichiro Suzuki and the Seattle Mariners will be the crowd favorites when they open Major League Baseball's 2012 season in Japan.

Oakland's Kurt Suzuki has been in this position before when he played in a two-game season-opening series against the Boston Red Sox here in 2008. Daisuke Matsuzaka grabbed all the attention in that series just as Ichiro no doubt will this time around.

As if having Suzuki wasn't enough, the Mariners arrived in Japan with two more Japanese players - infielder Munenori Kawasaki and pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma.

But the A's catcher said his team just has to focus on the task at hand.

"Daisuke was with the Red Sox and we all knew what his track record was and we all know what Ichiro has done," Suzuki told a news conference on Saturday. "But we try to out there and have people talk about us after we perform. Our goal is to go out there and play the game right and not worry about all the other distractions."

Kawasaki was named to the Mariners' 30-man travel roster for the team's trip to Japan after impressing in spring training.

"Kawasaki had a great camp," Seattle manager Eric Wedge said. "He made a great impression on all of us, obviously he had to make the ball club and he's still with us along with Iwakuma and I'm sure they are both happy to be back in Japan as members of the Seattle Mariners."

Ichiro Suzuki hit his second home run of the spring on Wednesday against the Chicago White Sox. The Seattle outfielder is hitting .400 since moving to the third spot in the lineup this spring after batting leadoff for nearly all of his career.

Oakland manager Bob Melvin said he was expecting an evenly matched series between two teams that are looking to improve after disappointing results last season.

"We all know Seattle has a good club and it's a little different dynamic with Ichiro hitting in the third spot," Melvin said. "But they are similar to us, they have some news players, had a good spring and a lot of times you gain something from that going into the season confidence-wise so I think they are in the same boat as us."

The teams left their spring training homes in Arizona on Thursday and will return to Arizona in a week. They will play preseason games against the Yomiuri Giants and Hanshin Tigers on Sunday and Monday before the season-opening games on Wednesday and Thursday.

Oakland's Manny Ramirez did not make the trip. Ramirez must sit out the first 50 games for a second violation of MLB's drug policy, making him eligible to play his first game barring rainouts on May 30 - his 40th birthday.

This will be the fourth Japan opener, following the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs (2000), the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay (2004), and Boston and Oakland (2008).

MLB and the players' association said the series also will aim to assist rebuilding in Japan following last year's earthquake. On Tuesday, a group of players will travel to Ishinomaki in the disaster-hit northeast region to conduct a baseball clinic.

Robots Could Be Future Playmates for Kids

As technology continues to improve, humanlike robots will likely play an ever-increasing role in our lives: They may become tutors for children, caretakers for the elderly, office receptionists or even housemaids. Children will come of age with these androids, which naturally raises the question: What kind of relationships will kids build with personified robots?

Children will view humanoid robots as intelligent social and moral beings, allowing them to develop substantial and meaningful relationships with the machines, new research suggests.

Researchers analyzed the interactions between nearly 100 children and Robovie, a 3-foot-tall (0.9 meters) robot developed by the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute in Japan. In the study, two technicians controlled Robovie remotely from another room, leading the children to believe that the robot was autonomous. The researchers imparted humanlike behavior to the robot, such as having Robovie claim unfair treatment when he was told to go into the closet at the end of the interaction sessions.

Follow-up interviews with the children showed that the kids believed Robovie had mental states, such as being intelligent and having feelings, and was a social entity capable of being a friend and confidante. Many of the children also believed that Robovie deserved fair treatment and should not be psychologically harmed. [10 Things That Make Humans Special]

"We typically think [of] robots as rational calculators rather than humanlike and emotional," said Adam Waytz, a psychologist at Northwestern University in Illinois, who was not involved in the study. "But this research provides a nice example of how endowing a robot with emotions can lead children to treat the robot as a companion and to consider its moral standing."

A mental, social and moral entity

A major goal in the field of human-robot interaction is to determine how people will behave socially with robots in the near future. Will we treat robots as tools to be used and tossed aside at will, or will we see them as moral entities deserving of fairness and rights?

To find out, Solace Shen, a psychology doctoral student at the University of Washington, and her colleagues recruited 90 children ages 9, 12 or 15 years old to interact with Robovie. The robot has some autonomous functions and speech recognition, but the researchers instead chose to control Robovie themselves.

"We tried to create a situation where people come in and interact with the robot in what would be a possible future scenario," Shen told LiveScience.

The 15-minute interaction sessions had several stages designed to impart Robovie with seemingly human characteristics and behavior. For example, Robovie introduces himself to the children, shows them an aquarium and teaches them about the ocean, asks them to move a ball out of his way, plays "I Spy" and argues with a researcher, who is present for the entire session.

In the last leg of the session, a second researcher interrupts the "I Spy" game to tell Robovie that he is no longer needed and has to go into the closet. Robovie objects and says that he is scared of being in the closet, but the researcher puts him in there anyway.

Immediately following the staged interactions, the researchers interviewed each child for 50 minutes. The majority of the children thought that Robovie had mental states; for instance, 79 percent believed he was intelligent and 60 percent believed that he had feelings. On the social side of things, 84 percent of the children said they might like to spend time with Robovie if they were lonely and 77 percent believed that he could be their friend.

Fewer children attributed Robovie with moral rights: 54 percent of the children believed it was wrong to put Robovie in the closet (whereas 98 percent said it would be wrong to put a person in a closet), and 42 percent believed that Robovie should be paid if he teaches people about the ocean all day long.

A fanciful view

Overall, fewer 15-year-olds saw Robovie as a mental, social and moral being than did the 9- and 12-year-olds, who scored the robot relatively the same on mental capacity. "But even though the 15-year-olds attribute less of these qualities, overhalf of them scored pretty high for Robovie as a mental, social, moral entity," Shen said.

The older children may just have a less "fanciful" view of robots and see them as mechanical machines. Alternatively, their views may have something to do with adolescents, which is a "unique age group that comes with its own issues and struggles," Shen explained. To really figure it all out, the researchers need to follow up with similar studies involving Robovie and adults. [10 Facts About the Teen Brain]

"If we did [that] and we saw that this developmental trend continues, then it would give us more clear evidence that maybe the older you get, the more you lose this fanciful view of robots," Shen said.

Whatever the case, the researchers think that the results have important implications for the design of future robots. If engineers design robots to simply obey orders, the master-servant relationship that children experience may trickle into their interactions with other humans. Is it then better to design robots with the ability to "push back" as Robovie did when he was instructed to go into the closet?

Shen said there is no easy answer to which design scheme is better.

"I don't think children will treat robots as nonsocial beings, they will treat them as social actors and interact with them in social ways," she said. "But we need more data and evidence to see how adults, as well as children, will develop relationships with these robots."

The study was published in the March issue of the journal Developmental Psychology.

Health and Fitness ? Fables and Facts Revealed | health-articles.co.uk

Discovering that you?ve been doing a particular exercise wrong for years would be frustrating. Think of the person who executes an exercise wrong due to incorrect information and then gets injured. Those and other considerations are very real and happen all the time. That is why it?s so important to make sure you get your information from experts and credible sources. Yoga and back pain products and related information are commonly seen online. Yoga is touted as a means for relieving your back pain. While this is true in some cases, it is also misleading and dangerous. Yoga can help you with back pain if the cause of the pain is related to your muscles. If you need to stretch and strengthen muscles in your back or other areas, yoga can help with that. Your back pain will go away as you do that. Yoga won?t help, however, if your back pain is due to bone problems like an issue with a spinal disc. You can actually make the problem worse by doing yoga in this kind of situation.

We have all heard that exercise will help you have more energy. This is true and is one of the many benefits of regular exercise. Exercising in the morning leaves many people feeling energized all day. Exercise increase your blood circulation which is one of the reasons for the energized feeling. Your cells receive more oxygen when your circulation is improved. Related to that is your strength and stamina will improve with working out. So if you have more stamina, then naturally you will feel like you have more energy.

When you engage in a quality fitness program you will experience an all-round higher level of physical and mental performance. Indeed, the benefits of greater strength and stamina will help your physical performance. The greater degree of clarity from regular exercise will obviously benefit your mental performance. Also, it is true that people who have regular exercise naturally tend to carry those positive habits into other areas of their life such as diet and nutrition.

It?s more important than ever to sort out the truths of health and fitness, especially if you?re totally new to working out. The reason for that is simply that you are in the early stages of fitness habit formation. If you cultivate the wrong or incorrect habits, then obviously you will be setting yourself up for a hard re-education in the future. Whether you continue your fitness program and your future success depend on forming good habits.

Seeking Causes Proximate and Ultimate of the March 11 Afghan Massacre

Legions of experts are trying to fathom what drove Staff Sergeant Robert Bales to allegedly slaughter 16 Afghan civilians, including nine children, on March 11. Many proximate causes have been proposed, including the strain of Bales? four military deployments; his recent financial troubles and failure to get a promotion; his repeated exposure to death and carnage; and his own injuries, including brain damage.

Seeking insights into the incident, I emailed Roy Eidelson and Stephen Soldz, past-presidents of Psychologists for Social Responsibility, a non-profit that, according to its Web site, ?applies psychological knowledge and expertise to promote peace, social justice, human rights, and sustainability.? I first encountered their work while researching a U.S. Army program ?Comprehensive Soldier Fitness.? Eidelson and Soldz are critical of CSF, which seeks to boost troops? psychological resilience. Here are excerpts from their responses to my query about the Bales incident:

Eidelson: ?Psychological difficulties?which can include erratic or impulsive behavior?are greater and more likely among those soldiers who have been deployed more often, those who have faced greater actual combat exposure, and those who have already experienced psychological trauma. Bales reportedly scores high on all three counts (and he seemingly didn?t want to deploy this fourth time), assuming there?s some validity to reports that he may have suffered from some degree of traumatic brain injury and possibly PTSD [post-traumatic stress disorder] as well. So it seems that there?s little question he could have been recognized as belonging to a ?higher risk? category for a range of detrimental behaviors (including both suicide and homicide). Part of the problem is that this is presumably also true of thousands of other currently deployed U.S. soldiers as well.

?So a key question is whether it is only in hindsight that we can realize that Bales would have been a good candidate for non-deployment after his three tours in Iraq, and a good candidate for psychological intervention based on his experiences there. But regrettably this type of decision reflects what could be considered a commonplace ?conflict of interest? situation between the Army?s mission and the welfare of an individual soldier (by the way, this is something that CSF fails to address). The Army wagered that the Afghanistan mission would benefit from Bales? participation (despite any psychological vulnerability on his part), and they lost that bet in a huge way. At best, they simultaneously hoped that Bales? deployment would not be harmful to him individually (as with any soldier in harm?s way). They were clearly wrong about that as well.

?Events with very low baseline probabilities, such as Bales? massacre, are exceedingly difficult or impossible to predict with any accuracy?it?s far too likely that you?ll be wrong if you predict that a specific individual will do something like this if he has no history of having done so in the past. Whatever the most proximate immediate stressor was before the massacre, it presumably wasn?t sufficient on its own to lead to this horrific outcome?other conditions and pre-conditions were necessary as well. The easy prediction to make is that some soldier, somewhere, sometime, is going to pose a significant risk for doing something awful.

?The bottom line, I think, is that a universal program like CSF is not the answer in the Bales case anyway, in part because resilience training isn?t likely to overcome the effects of multiple deployments, significant combat exposure, etc. And it?s not at all clear that we would ultimately want a program that would miraculously accomplish that anyway, given the complex ethical issues involved in creating the ?indomitable? soldier.??

Soldz had this to say: ?This case is a profoundly disturbing illustration of an issue that is seldom mentioned by most writers on these wars, that among the major victims of the stress and psychological problems [such as PTSD] are not just the soldiers, their families, and the military and its mission (the usual victims), but the civilians under occupation?

?The military claims that aiding these civilians is a prime reason for the troops to be there, but protecting them is usually a secondary consideration. Troops are routinely taught that ?the mission? comes first. This is especially true with the field commanders, junior officers and non-commissioned officers, who, I?ve often been told by soldiers, tell those under their command, ?The Geneva Conventions are fine, for training. But, in the field, do whatever it takes.?

?I think that the military would be better advised to spend more time working with troops on the difficulty and strain of occupying an alien land (as distinct from deployment stress) and on the centrality to the mission of humanizing and protecting civilians at all costs than on CSF type resilience programs. In order to humanize civilians, they would have to drop their simplistic ?bad guys? rhetoric and truly help the troops understand the profound ambivalence that Afghans often have toward foreigners who they may need, but who they also fear and resent. Working through an example of ?how would you feel if Afghans invaded your neighborhood and how would you and your neighbors react? could be far more valuable than CSF.

?A universal CSF-type program is extremely unlikely to deal in any positive way with extreme instances like the Bales case. Rather, one has to reduce their likelihood by reducing the stress through reduced deployments, greater steps to encourage stressed individuals to not redeploy. Unfortunately, the latter conflicts with the supreme importance of unit cohesion in allowing the military to function. ?Loyalty? to the unit and the mission has to be redefined to include not sending those who shouldn?t be sent.?

Here is my take on the Bales incident. We must certainly seek to identify factors?from the neurological to the economic?that can provoke soldiers into committing war crimes, so that the military can take steps to reduce the incidence of such acts. But we should also recognize that, whatever the proximate causes of the massacre in Afghanistan turn out to be, the ultimate cause is moral and political, and all Americans bear responsibility for what happened. As long as we accept that wars are a morally acceptable way to solve problems, soldiers will continue to commit atrocities, including the killing of women and children, because that?s what happens, inevitably, in wartime.

Community and Foster Care - Growing Family

This second experience with foster care has be thinking about the importance of a supportive community and how much that can impact the success of a placement.

I was dealing with some serious stress about this placement and I told my friends. I didn't tell them to pressure them into helping me. I told them because I was stressed and I think being honest is a really important key to making sure I don't end up depressed and overwhelmed on my own.

My friends have amazed me.

The girls have been with us four days. On the first day a precious friend offered to bring my older kids home from school, and deliver dinner to us as well. She followed through even though her own child stayed home sick from school that day, even arranging the little details like calling the school to make sure the kids knew they were riding with her, etc. Amazing.

The next day another friend offered to bring the kids home and said she could do the same several other days.

Yet another amazing friend gave me a list of days from her calendar and said "I can do whatever you need, for as long as you need, for as many of these days as you like. Just tell me."

Another amazing sweetheart said "these are the days I can get off of work early to come and help you with the bath/dinner/bedtime routine."

Tears are coming up just writing it down.

We are so blessed.

This abundance of thoughtful helpfulness has brought me over the line from being totally stressed, to enjoying having these girls with us.?

Not everyone can or should adopt or do foster care. However, if you want to support adoptive or foster care families and contribute to what they are doing, these kinds of offers of help can make a world of difference.

Other bloggers have written thorough and fantastic posts about what people can do to help, I just wanted to take a minute to honor the stunning people I have in my life who value me and what we are doing, not just with verbal affirmations, but with actions. I have never felt so surrounded.

My friends started lifting me up even before I started to drown. Is there someone in your life doing something you admire or want to support? I'm sure you can find a way to support them. You might never know how much of a difference your help might make!

Average investors shun big move in stocks

u.s. stock market

Click for more market data.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) ? U.S. stocks have been on a tear so far this year, but the average American investor still isn?t buying it.

After last year?s wild ride, most so-called retail investors have been pulling money out of the stock market and plowing it into bonds.

That turned out to be a pretty smart trade last year. U.S. Treasurys returned an estimated 10% in 2011, while stocks ended the year flat.

But the trend could start moving in the other direction as the economy finds its legs and markets become less volatile.

The SP 500 rose to a four-year high this week and has gained over 9% so far this year.

Meanwhile, prices for Treasury bonds have tumbled, sending the yield on the 10-year note up to its highest level since October.

Gold, another star performer last year, has also underperformed stocks this year.

At the same time, the market has been a lot less volatile, which could entice some retail investors to start buying again. The VIX, known as Wall Street?s fear gauge, fell to a five-year low this week.

Yet the U.S. investing public remains deeply skeptical of stocks after being burned twice in the last decade, first by the collapse of the dotcom bubble and then the 2008 financial meltdown.

And with the memory of last year?s gut wrenching moves still fresh on investors? minds, it could take a while for the fear to subside and greed to kick in.

?Retail investors are coming from an incredibly depressed mindset,? said Alec Young, equity strategist at Standard Poor?s. ?The only thing that will change that is a prolonged period of excellent performance in the equity market.?

While he said this process has already begun, Young pointed out that money continues to flow out of equity-based funds that cater to retail investors.

According to the Investment Company Institute?s most recent statistics, which run through March 7, investors pulled only $126 million out of mutual funds that invest in global stocks.

In contrast, a total of $10.7 billion flowed into mutual funds that invest in bonds during the week ended March 7, according to ICI, which focuses solely on mutual fund flows.

?Retail investors are becoming cautiously more comfortable with stocks,? said Kate Warne, chief investment strategist with Edward Jones.

In fact, after 10 weeks of outflows, February had three weeks of inflows, before investors pulled back, according to ICI data. That suggests the tide may be starting to turn, even though investors are still currently favoring safety.

?The fundamentals are good and increased confidence suggests that people will be putting more money in the market,? she said. ?That doesn?t mean there won?t be pullbacks, but it?s in line with our expectation that the direction of the market is higher.?

That goes against the conventional wisdom on Wall Street, which says when you see retail investors returning, the market has peaked.

?If you believe retail investors are the fools in the market, then yes: it?s about time for them to jump back in,? joked Cameron Brandt, senior global market analyst at EPFR Global, a Cambridge, Mass.-based firm that tracks fund flows.

Brandt doesn?t see that happening anytime soon, however.

According to EPFR, which tracks flows into and out of a variety of funds, retail investors pulled some $540 million out of U.S. equity-based funds during the week ended March 7. That was a slower pace than the prior two weeks, which showed outflows of $1.3 billion and $2.1 billion, respectively.

?The pace of the retreat has certainly slowed in recent weeks,? said Brandt, adding that there have been no net inflows by retail investors into equity funds tracked by EPFR since the first week of July.

In addition to the high degree of skepticism among retail investors, Brandt points out that there are more long-term forces behind the exodus from stocks.

As the ?baby boom? generation nears retirement age, much of the nation?s wealth is being shifted out of stocks and into bonds as part of the traditional approach to retirement planning.

Still, there is reason to believe that retail investors will eventually return to the stock market, given the lack of other options and depending on the sustainability of the current rally.

?The case for them jumping back in is that it?s very hard to get a decent return on your investment right now,? he said. ?If the market stays up around this level long enough, I think it will gradually draw retail investors back in.??To top of page

No. 15 seed Norfolk St stuns No. 2 Missouri 86-84

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) ? Welcome to the NCAA tournament, Norfolk State.

Might as well stick around a while.

Kyle O'Quinn had 26 points and 14 rebounds, making several key plays in the closing minutes, and the gritty No. 15 seed Spartans held on through a tense final minute to topple second-seeded Missouri 86-84 on Friday in the West Regional.

Pendarvis Williams and Chris McEachin each added 20 points for the MEAC champion Spartans (26-9), who made their first trip to the NCAA tournament a memorable one. They became the fifth No. 15 seed to beat a No. 2 and the first since fellow conference member Hampton in 2001.

When it was over, O'Quinn led Norfolk State back to the locker room shouting, "We messed up some brackets! We messed up some brackets!"

As he turned the corner, he looked over to a pack of reporters and said, "We even messed up my bracket."

O'Quinn had a chance to take some of the drama out of the finish when he went to the free throw line with 3.8 seconds to go, but the 70-percent foul shooter missed both tries.

Missouri coach Frank Haith called a timeout with 2.9 seconds left to set up a final play, and the ball wound up in the hands of Phil Pressey. He took a couple of hard dribbles and let loose a 3-pointer from the wing that clanked off the back iron as the buzzer sounded.

O'Quinn leaped for joy. Pressey fell to the court in disbelief.

And the roar that rose inside CenturyLink Arena from anybody wearing anything other than black and gold may have drowned out the sound of brackets getting torn up all over America.

"We just shocked everybody," Brandon Wheeless said.

Michael Dixon led Missouri (30-5) with 22 points, and Pressey and fellow guard Marcus Denmon finished with 20 points each. Pressey also contributed eight assists.

"I'm very disappointed, as everyone in that locker room was," Haith said. "I hurt for those seniors because they put so much into this. They had high expectations as we came into this season, but let's understand one thing ? they had a hell of a year."

The Tigers rolled into the tournament on the strength of a dominant run to the Big 12 tournament title, rarely getting tested in three games in Kansas City. That was enough to make Missouri a trendy Final Four pick, something the school had never before accomplished.

Norfolk State made sure it wouldn't happen this year, either.

The plucky Spartans shot 54.2 percent from the field ? 62.5 percent in the second half ? and managed to knock down 10 of 19 3-point shots. They also turned the ball over just 11 times against the Tigers' quick-handed guards, who had caused fits for most teams this season.

"We matched up with Marquette earlier in the year. We were accustomed to that style of play, the running style of play, getting shots up real quick," Wheeless said.

Missouri knew right away that Norfolk State wasn't going away easily.

The Spartans opened the game on 15-7 surge, turning most of the folks dressed in Florida blue and Virginia orange into surrogate fans. And when Missouri jumped ahead on the strength of three consecutive 3-pointers, Norfolk State didn't seem to be rattled.

Fifth-year coach Anthony Evans simply called a timeout to regroup, and McEachin curled in a 3-pointer when play resumed to push the Spartans back ahead.

Things were going so well for Norfolk State in the first half that O'Quinn, an 18-percent shooter from beyond the arc, swished one from the top of the key. The big guy added a conventional three-point play later in the half, slamming his hand onto the court after he was fouled and then stepping to the free throw line and giving Norfolk State a 38-36 lead.

Dixon's basket with 23.4 seconds left meant a tie game at halftime.

Missouri spent nearly the entire 20-minute break in its locker room. The Spartans were back on the court before it was even half over, putting up shots like it was a Sunday afternoon shootaround.

They must have liked the way things were going.

Marcos Tamares scored right out of halftime and the Spartans kept plugging away. Ricardo Ratliffe made a couple of baskets for Missouri and Williams hit another deep jumper for Norfolk State. Dixon hit a 3 from the corner and O'Quinn scored underneath.

The only time Missouri threatened to create some breathing room came when Pressey followed his own basket with a 3-pointer with 7:15 to go, giving the Tigers a 73-69 lead.

Tamares was there to provide a 3-pointer of his own.

The game was still tied 81-all when Rodney McCauley airballed a baseline jumper with 34.9 seconds left. O'Quinn was there to pluck it out of midair and put it back, getting fouled by the Tigers' Matt Pressey in the process. O'Quinn's free throw gave the Spartans an 84-81 lead.

O'Quinn added the first of two free throws moments later, but Pressey hit a deep 3-pointer from the wing with just a shade over 10 seconds left, giving Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon ? seated two rows behind the Tigers' bench ? reason to hope.

McCauley restored an 86-84 lead with the first of two free throws, and after a loose ball wound up in Norfolk State's hands, O'Quinn missed his two big foul shots.

That set the stage for Missouri's dramatic final possession.

A possession that nobody at tiny Norfolk State will ever forget.

"Coming into the game, I believed it. I believed it from the jump. Honest to God's truth," McCauley said. "We've got good shooters. We dig deep. We're not ready to go home yet. We've got five seniors. We're ready to keep playing."

Lego Game Boy Transformer uses blocks for more than Tetris

'Bricked' Game Boy is more than meets the eye, uses Legos to transform
So what's cooler for '80s geeks than a Lego set, a Game Boy or a Transformers robot? Why, a Lego Game Boy Transformer, of course. At least, that's the idea behind the latest pièce de résistance from building-block lover Julius von Brunk, who not only got the touch but also got the power to create his very own Game Boy-inspired Lego Transformer. The "Domaster" -- no relation to the exercise machine for perky thighs -- borrows heavily from fan favorite Soundwave and even features a Tetris cartridge that transforms into a little birdie that looks like Laserbeak. Two fake AA batteries double as blaster cannons so folks can mutter "pew-pew" at pictures of Michael Bay and Shia LaBeouf. Yes, it isn't as big as China's Optimus Prime and it can't play Super Nintendo games like this Game Boy costume. On the plus side, at least this thing won't ruin your precious childhood memories.

Muscle Building Not Just for Athletes | Bodybuilding, Supplements ...

So how important is our muscular-skeletal system? And is it inevitable that we will lose mass amounts of muscle due to the very fact that we are aging?

Our muscular-skeletal system is imperative to keep us moving. However, the system also contributes to effective metabolic function, which includes immune function support. So, scientifically speaking, if the human body loses muscle mass, the result is a severe decrease in functional movement, strength, metabolic function and immune support.

In other words, according to Life Extension Magazine, ?This suggests that frail elderly people with decreased muscle mass may have poorer outcomes after major surgery or traumatic accidents, since they lack the metabolic reservoir of muscle mass to support the immune system and other bodily systems during the recovery process.?

A research study from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found ?If there is a preexisting deficiency of muscle mass before trauma, the acute loss of muscle mass and function may push an individual over a threshold that makes recovery of normal function unlikely to ever occur. For this reason, greater than 50 percent of women older than 65 years who break a hip in a fall never walk again.?

Starting at the age of 40 there is a decline in muscle mass, and after the age of 75 it rapidly increases in loss. However some individuals suffer from a condition referred to as sarcopenia. Sarcopenia as defined by the Agricultural Research Service occurs ?when muscle mass begins to decline at a rate of about 1 percent per year, from the age of 40.?

The true term sarcopenia was proposed by Irwin Rosenberg, in 1989, ?to describe the age-related decrease in muscle mass.? Although there are other conditions that can cause muscle mass reduction, they are not considered to be sarcopenia.

Per Rosenberg?s definition, as a geriatric syndrome, the definitive causes are not fully researched and understood. At this time, Agricultural Research Services has concluded that ?this gradual loss has been tied to protein deficiency, lack of exercise and increased frailty among the elderly.?

However, it has been found that sarcopenia can also occur in individuals who are physically active. According to the majority of the limited research, sarcopenia has many contributing factors.

?Like osteoporosis, sarcopenia is a multifactorial disease process that may result from sub-optimal hormone levels, inadequate dietary protein, other nutritional imbalances, lack of exercise, oxidative stress, and inflammation,? according to Life Extension Magazine.

As mentioned, sarcopenia and osteoporosis are connected, as Nick Mitchell?s Ultimate Performance blog notes:

Sarcopenia and osteoporosis are directly related conditions, one often following the other. Muscles generate the mechanical stress required to keep our bones healthy; when muscle activity is reduced it exacerbates the osteoporosis problem and a vicious circle is established, which accelerates the decline in health and functionality.

Although osteoporosis has had more traction when it comes to research and public knowledge, sarcopenia is now being ?recognized as one of the major public health problems now facing industrialized nations, and its effects are expected to place increasing demands on public health care systems worldwide.?

As a public health concern, obesity is at the forefront due to its health consequences and the increasing demand the obesity rates are placing on our health care system. Often those who are obese have quite a few of the key contributing factors of sarcopenia.

Unfortunately, common solutions to reduce body mass on an obese individual have been calorie restricted diets, with limited exercise. Although the result of a low calorie, nutrient restricted diet, as well as some cardiovascular exercise, can achieve weight loss, this fails to address the impact this may have on muscle mass and bone density. A healthy eating program that is designed to reduce body mass should take into consideration increasing muscle mass and bone density.

When designing a body mass reduction program, ?the desired result should be identified in terms of outcomes on muscle mass, strength, and metabolic function, as opposed to traditional measures of exercise training, such as the maximal oxygen consumption, which have little direct relation to health outcomes, according to the study from The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

In other words a body mass reduction program that is designed to include proper nutrition and physical activity will also have a positive effect in reducing the risk of sarcopenia as well as osteoporosis.

Although this is only the beginning of discussions, when it comes to the needs of stopping or preventing sarcopenia it should be noted that the other key factors such as sub-optimal hormones, oxidative stress and inflammation are linked to osteoporosis as well as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, kidney disease and the list goes on. In essence the loss of muscle as we age is not inevitable but it is preventable, as are many of these other diseases. However, as our population continues to maintain unhealthy lifestyles, aging and loss of muscle mass are inevitable.

L.A. museum prepares to display space shuttle Endeavour

The California Science Center will soon begin construction of an aircraft hangar for the space shuttle Endeavour, the museum's president said.

The hangar will be built northwest of the state-run museum, near downtown Los Angeles, Jeffrey N. Rudolph, president of the science center, said. Construction is scheduled to begin in a couple of weeks.

The temporary climate-controlled home will allow the museum to make Endeavour available for public viewing within weeks of its arrival in the fall. During that time, it will be displayed horizontally.

The museum will then build a permanent Air and Space Center, and Endeavour will be its centerpiece.

Endeavour is now at NASA's Cape Canaveral in Florida. Moving the space ship from Los Angeles International Airport to the science center will probably take an entire day.

The shuttle is so large that crews will have to dismantle traffic signals, cut trees and close roads so it can pass through the city. The move is expected to happen on a Saturday.

The California Science Center is one of three museums nationwide to receive a retired space shuttle; a fourth is receiving the prototype Enterprise. NASA will move space shuttle Discovery from Florida to the Washington, D.C., area April 17, and to the Smithsonian's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Va., on April 19.

The Enterprise prototype, now at the Udvar-Hazy center, will move to New York City on April 23. In June, it will be moved by barge to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum complex.

The Atlantis will remain in Florida and be displayed at the Kennedy Space Center's visitor complex.

It?s not often an art gallery encourages visitors to bring their dogs to a show, but the opening of this Notting Hill canine caper ? designed as a cunning alternative for those unable to make Crufts, which opened in Birmingham on the same day ? offered exactly that.

Several of the talented urban, graffiti and contemporary artists taking part were also at the bash to paint inimitable dog portraits, created for an exhibition which has also scored sponsorship from local pet parlour owners Pet Pavilion and Bulldog Gin.

The works themselves feature everything from suited moggies and philosophical pooches to fine art Westies and spray painted pugs. Our best friends have rarely been depicted so debonairly.

kent - Your Business on Social Sites - Best Internet Business Online

The goal of business owners is to make money. This often results with the selling of a particular product or service. However, to sell that product or service business owners need to alert the general public. Customer cannot buy a product or a service if they do not know that it exists. That is why, as a business owner, you need to advertise your business.

When it comes to advertising there are many business owners who literally cringe. Are you doing this now? There is a good chance that you are because many advertising methods cost money. As a business owner you want to make money not spend it, right? Unfortunately, if you believe that all forms of advertising take money, you are sadly mistaken. Although you may have to spend money to make your business what you want it to be, there are ways to promote your business and the products or services that you sell without having to spend any money at all.

Is your curiosity peaked yet? There is a good chance that it is, rightfully so. One of the ways that you can promote your online business, without having to spend a dime, is by using something that is readily available online. That thing is an online social networking website. A large number of Internet users, in fact millions of them, belong to at least one social networking website.

When it comes to social networking, there are many individuals who think of online friendships or online relationships. While these types of relationships are the most common, did you know that social networking is also used for businesses? In fact, that was originally how social networking got started. If you are a small business owner, especially one that operates an online business, there is a way that you can use social networking sites to your advantage.

Although social networking websites are traditionally focused on those that would like to make online friends or develop online relationships, there are networking sites that are designed for business owners. These websites will not only allow you to share your business information with other business owners, but it will also allow you to develop close relationships with those that share an interest that is similar to yours. Essentially, this means that you could not only learn valuable business information, but you could also walk away with a new business partner or a new friend.

As previously mentioned, social networking websites with a focus on businesses, are a great way to promote your business. However, this does not mean that you should completely forget about the other online social networking websites, the ones that are designed to make online friendships.

If you are looking to join an online community, you will need to create your own profile or profile page. If you are planning on joining a traditional social networking website, to gain access to millions of potential new customers, you are urged to be careful when making your online webpage or profile. One thing that Internet users hate is being solicited for business. This does not mean that you cannot use social networking to your advantage; it just means that you need to be careful with how you do it. Instead of creating a MySpace page or a Yahoo! 360 page for your business, you are advised to make one for yourself, but, of course, you will want to include information on your business.

By joining a social networking website, especially one that is popular and has a large number of members, you should be able to generate interest in your business, including the products or services that you sell. Who knows, but that interest generated could turn into sales; thus making your social networking experience more than worth it.

Republican Presidential Race: Rick Santorum Cruises to Kansas Caucus Win

The protracted race for the GOP presidential nomination grew a bit tighter today as Rick Santorum won the Kansas caucuses by an overwhelming margin.

With 97 percents of the precincts reporting in the Sunflower State, Santorum earned 51 percent of the vote, with Mitt Romney second with 21 percent.

Newt Gingrich with 14 percent and Ron Paul with 12 percent to finish in third and fourth, respectively. Alabama and Mississippi hold primaries Tuesday.

Santorum stands to gain a substantial number of Kansas' 40 delegates, which he called crucial to competitive in the race for his party's nomination.

"We have to do well here in Kansas," Santorum said this week in Lenexa, Kan., a suburb of Kansas City. "We have to win here in Kansas, and win big."

Romney and Gingrich largely skipped Kansas in favor of the states voting next week. Santorum and Paul had been the most active campaigners in Kansas.

Romney began the weekend with 339 delegates, with 107 for Gingrich, 95 for Santorum, and 22 for Paul, according to the Republican National Committee.

The RNC totals do not reflect any wins in states where delegates are not bound to the winning candidates, and also differ from various media estimates.

Romney remains the odds-on favorite to win the GOP nod and face off with President Obama in the fall, but his opponents clearly aren't going quietly.

With 1,144 delegates needed to win the Republican nomination, it will take many more weeks for Mitt to reach that total, if he's able to do so at all.
