What! You Need to Get Into Astronomy? | Internet Contents

When you search the Internet for information on how to create affirmations you find that there is an overwhelming predisposition to phrasing affirmations in the first person ? that is using I, me, my, or mine in the affirmations.

There is a good reason for it. Traditionally, affirmations were used by people a narrow subset of the population ? people in recovery, super salespeople, or elite athletes. The formula preached by the affirmation gurus who worked with these groups was to write your affirmations in the first-person and sit in front of the mirror (Stuart Smalley style) and repeat your affirmations until ? by sheer will ? you believed them.

No one can deny that many people used this technique to great effect. The fact is, however, that most people are too busy or find performing this ritual kind of cheesy. The parody created by the Stuart Smalley character on Saturday Night Live, in my opinion, only served to make affirmations ?nerdy? and cause people who could use them to shy away.

Today people who want to change their habits, reshape their thinking, or condition their minds for success get their affirmations by listening. My own 15-plus year experiment with affirmations has found that repeated listening (both with intent and passively) is every bit as effective as the mirror talk.

Listening to affirmations provides the added benefit of being able to augment first-person affirmations with second-person affirmations ? affirmations using you or your. The importance of adding ?you? to affirmations is that it allows you to tap into one of the greatest powers of affirmations ? thought substitution. Thought substitution is a process by which you replace an existing negative thought or belief with a positive one. It is one of the most important benefits of using affirmations.

Most of the negative self-talk you seek to overcome with affirmations originated from outside of you. Other people planted the thoughts and you internalized them and made them part of your thinking. These thoughts are almost always phrased (even in your own mind) using ?you? because that is how you originally absorbed them.

For instance, your mother said, ?You are so stupid,? when you were 10 years old. For whatever reason, you internalized that thought. Over the years, whenever you mess up you hear the phrase, ?You are so stupid,? in your mind.

So, using this example, you create a first-person affirmation that says, ?I am smart,? to counter the old thought. The affirmation will be somewhat effective in countering the old thought, but it will not replace it. Oddly enough, there is something about the thought substitution process that requires a one-for-one switch for maximum effectiveness.

The ?I am smart? affirmation plays a role in affirming our own belief in our intelligence. However, the old thought, ?You are so stupid,? is still floating around in your mind and you wind up with two conflicting beliefs.

What I have found resolves this situation is to complement the first-person affirmation with a second-person version that can ? with repetition ? actually replace the old thought. The most effective means is to listen to or repeat the affirmation in the first-person affirmation several times and follow it with the affirmation in the second-person several times.

The result is that you are simultaneously planting a new internal thought, ?I am smart,? and replacing the old external thought with a substitute thought coming from the outside that confirms, ?You are smart.?

Try adding the power of ?you? to your affirmations!

California Air National Guard sends two planes to fight Colorado fires

Plane2Two fire-fighting planes from the California Air National Guard are set to leave Saturday to join the battle against the flames ravaging Colorado.

The two C-130J planes from the 146th Airlift Wing in Port Hueneme will leave from the Channel Islands Air National Guard Station. Thirty personnel will leave with the aircraft.

Each plane can release 3,000 gallons of water or retardant per drop.

Two C-130J planes from the North Carolina Air National Guard have also been ordered to Colorado.?The new planes will push to eight the number of C-130J planes fighting the flames.

The cost of the mission will be reimbursed by the federal government, California Gov. Jerry Brown said in announcing the deployment.

In 2008, when brush fires burned 2,000 acres in California, firefighters, engines and aircraft from Colorado came to the state to provide assistance.

Blip Gets Into The Original Content Game, With A New Studio And Three Exclusive Series

BlipTV_med-1 2-7-12Video startup Blip has spent the last several years helping independent creators to distribute and monetize their videos across the web. But like YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and others, it sees a great opportunity to produce some original content of its own. With that in mind, it's introducing Blip Studios, a production banner that will launch with three exclusive distribution deals. Blip Studios will work directly with web video producers to help produce high-quality original series, which Blip will then distribute through various distribution platforms. The new studio venture will be focused specifically on helping its content partners increase the production value of their shows, and also provide them with assistance around audience development and distribution. In addition, the company is looking to increase monetization of these shows by interfacing with brands around sponsorships and branded content.

Now's the time to begin an advertising franchise | Starting your own ...

The advertising and marketing industry is one of the most vibrant business sectors throughout the world, with firms and organizations of all sizes hoping on obtaining their name out there. As a result of the vital role it plays in modern business, an advertising franchise offers nice potential for those interested in setting up their own business.

For those with experience in the field of marketing, there are actually several opportunities accessible, significantly if they need established a good reputation and networks. For those without this experience though, working with a franchise still presents a nice opportunity.

Ahead of anything else, a strong franchisor helps their franchisees with the all-important analysis and development at the very early stage. This is the most critical part for any new business, and having that support mechanism in place can prove invaluable. However, the advantages go a good deal any than this.

All too often, what at face value seems a good plan for a business fails as a result of the plan, and the model being followed, are found to be lacking. With a franchise, this can be not the case. By their terribly definition, the business model is successful and has been for many people. It takes toil as any business too, however with the added confidence of a proven model, business selections are aided.

A great way to start in the marketing world is by working in the front line, supplying the delivery of the materials required for ad campaigns. Through fitting a well-run print advertising franchise, all businesses during a local area are immediately the target audience, while most can have already heard of the brand.

Poster printing, for instance, is needed by local bars and clubs, while posters will also will be required by larger firms for internal advertising and workers awareness programs. Local stores, whether selling groceries, electrical product, or offering services, all need to advertise too. From posters and banners, to catalogs and flyer printing, they?ll all come to rely on a local printing and advertising franchise.

For the more creative people out there, making a printing and advertising franchise also allows those abilities and ambitions to be expressed. With smaller organizations above all, there?s the possibility to influence style and strategy with the abilities developed in training, and to really help produce a campaign with a good impact.

When working with larger companies too, there is the chance to have a great deal of input ? from advising on the latest ways to produce prints which stand out, to advising for better materials to deliver a more successful result. With training from the beginning, and through the course of possession, a franchisee can really develop into an integral a part of the advertising and marketing world.

Typically, a printers works in just one or two spheres. However, setting up advertising franchise that delivers print and design services across the board will extremely become an important element of any city?s economy. With important profit also able to be generated by those wanting to put the work in, they truly allow people to take control of their lives.

Syria intervention of the right sort

When Syria downed a Turkish jet last Friday, who came out in support of Turkey? That club of democracies called NATO. The Syrians' cry for freedom demands a strong response by nations already free.

By the Monitor's Editorial Board / June 27, 2012

Syrian forces shot down a Turkish reconnaissance jet over international waters last Friday ? and then shot at a second plane searching for the first one. It was a startling escalation of what has mostly been an internal conflict in Syria sparked 16 months ago by peaceful pro-democracy protests.

So how did Turkey, a democracy ruled by an Islamic party, respond to this provocative act?

On Tuesday, it sought support from the 28 nations of NATO and the 15 nations of the United Nations Security Council. And guess which body spoke out strongly in support of Turkey?

It was NATO ? that club of democracies, formally called the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Its secretary-general, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, called Syria?s action ?unacceptable.? All of NATO joined in saying the episode was ?another example of the Syrian authorities? disregard for international norms, peace and security, and human life.?

Meanwhile, the Security Council, where antidemocracy Russia and China hold veto power, was silent. In fact, the Council?s representative, former Secretary-General Kofi Annan, was left on his own to try to plot the next move on Syria. He plans to convene the Council?s big powers and a few Middle East nations in Geneva this weekend for yet another push at compromise with Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad.

Despite the messy mix of fighters and dissidents in Syria, one stark fact still influences this struggle. Enough Syrians want liberty and democracy enough to be killed by Assad forces in their homes, on the streets, or in armed rebellion. An estimated 10,000 have so far been killed, about the same number of Allied troops killed in the 1944 invasion of Normandy.

Turkey?s military might and its 550-mile border with Syria make it a key player to any solution. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan tried hard to persuade Mr. Assad to allow political reform, only to have Assad break his promises. Now Turkey is letting its territory be used to shelter some 33,000 Syrian refugees and as a launching ground for Syrian rebels.

As the Arab Spring sputters along, democracies like Turkey are being forced to clearly take sides and join together, often outside the UN. NATO is one convenient forum, especially when one of its members is attacked.

But other democratic nations can also unite in making sure this struggle isn?t one of all countries simply seeking their ?national interests,? but that it remain a universal cause for freedom.

Is Russia coming around to this point? A Moscow consultancy with ties to the military, the Centre for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies, issued a report this week suggesting that Russia has few essential interests in Syria.

The world need only remind itself of the scenes of crowds in Egypt and Tunisia after their recent free elections to be reminded of what?s at stake in Syria. The dark contrast to those joyous images are the regular reports of women and children massacred in Syria.

The current Annan plan is aimed at easing Assad out of power before a full civil war erupts. That has become more difficult since the Annan-brokered cease-fire in April has brought more violence, not less, and the Syrian Air Force has downed the jet of a nearby democracy.

In the end, the real power in Syria won?t be either diplomacy or violence. It will be the firm affirmation of the need for liberty, not just by Syrians but by those countries that are already free.

Knowing We Are All the Image of God - Covenant Network

In joy! Oh! In joy do we gather: knowing we are all the image of God. This is the first verse of one of my favorite choral calls to prayer?one of the pieces we use to open the worship service at Riviera each Sunday morning. I heard it sung first at a Covenant Network conference by the group who composed it, a wonderfully odd collection of Lutherans known as ?Bread for the Journey.???????

When we sing it, I am able to look out over the congregation?my own fabulous (and occasionally odd) gathering of family-of-faith?look at each face, and give thanks for the unique image of God reflected differently in each one of them. We have differing life experiences, backgrounds and work; come from different traditions and different places in the world; we see God differently and reflect the path of Christ with a wide variety of interests, volunteer efforts and connections. Our families are not all the same: the children we treasure have come to us from birth, surrogacy, national and international adoption, or foster care; and we connect with friend or partner or spouse in a variety of ways. One thing I believe is common among us:? that we all are formed in our relationships by Love, which comes from God; and that we all of us, are made truly in God?s image and living a life of faith intended to let that God-image shine forth more clearly.? We listen to one another, share our stories and practice community together because it is the way Christ has taught us to see the face of God.

Beginning in mid-July, we will enter on a beautiful season of baptisms. Beginning with the newly-adopted daughter of two men in our congregation on July 22, we will follow on August 5 by celebrating the welcome of new members, and the presentation for baptism by one of those families of their young sons, now that this young couple has claimed a church home that is as open and diverse as it is filled with children! Later in the summer or early fall, the congregation will at last celebrate the joining together of two dads and the two boys who have come to them out of our county foster care system. Baptism?s theological recognition that we are all adopted by grace into the family of God has special resonance here. Our church family has long been praying for the finalization of the boys? adoption, and it will be a great joy to mark that union of a wonderful family with the sacrament of baptism. The image of God is so easy to see in these five precious children and the six parents (and one older sister!) who nurture them.

Later in the fall, the church will complete its season with a special service of baptismal renewal for one of our fellowship. The PCUSA Directory for Worship describes baptism as the sealing of the Word: the sign and seal of God?s grace and our response. . .the foundational recognition of Christian commitment. In addition to celebrating the sacrament of baptism for people of faith and their children, Presbyterian governance provides for services of baptismal renewal for those moments in an individual?s or congregation?s life when the remembrance and reaffirmation of baptismal promises may have special resonance.? Recently, our church newsletter featured a note of invitation from a long-time member. This individual, after a long journey with great struggles and powerful moments of spiritual and emotional insight, has accepted the challenge of gender reassignment, and will be transitioning from female to male over the remainder of this year. This has been a long journey for him and for his partner and their family.? Pastorally, it is a unique and powerful blessing to watch someone literally move more deeply into their own deepest self, even when that movement means risk and change; and to witness the image of God being brought forth in the midst of that re-birth, ever more powerfully. In his letter, the member thanks the church community, anticipating and having already experienced how this family of faith embraces people in their journeys, exactly as they are and as God has made them. Every person in this church with whom he has shared this news has embraced his journey with thoughtfulness, prayerful support, and love. Our session believes this is a rare experience for any community of faith, one that should be marked ritually as well as practically. The Book of Order states:? ?baptism signifies the beginning of life in Christ, not its completion. God?s grace works steadily. . .God?s faithfulness needs no renewal. Human faithfulness to God needs repeated renewal. Baptism calls for decision at every subsequent stage of life?s way, both for those whose Baptism attends their profession of faith and for those who are nurtured from childhood within the family of faith. Baptism is received only once. There are many times in worship, however, when believers acknowledge the grace of God continually at work. As they participate in the celebration of another?s Baptism . . .and as they reaffirm the commitments made at Baptism, they confess their ongoing need of God?s grace and pledge their obedience to God?s covenant in Christ. (W-2.3007 and W-2.3009).? And so we will mark this child of God?s faithful decision at a truly unique ?subsequent stage of life?s way?, welcome God?s continued fidelity, and pledge our own support and nurture as he and his family begin a new phase of life together.

What a great privilege, to have our tropical rainy summer season marked with so many moments of refreshment, renewal and recognition of the grace of God, to experience the blessing of baptism and baptismal renewal for members of our church family, all children created in the image of God.

I have a feeling we will be singing again and again in these good days:

In joy! oh, in joy do we gather! Knowing we are all the image of God.
??????????? Be great, oh, be grateful and confident?Knowing we are all the image of God.
??????????? Be well! Oh, be well and be welcome, knowing we are all the image of God.

PR for Authors Part 2: How to Build a List of ... - Authority Publishing

In my previous article, I covered what you need to know before you pitch the media. Now I?ll share with you how to build your list of PR for Authors Part 2: How to Build a List of Media Contactsmedia contacts?and it?s a lot easier than you might think.

Media Websites

Nearly all of the major media outlets have websites with easy access to contact information for reporters, editors, and producers. In fact, they make it almost ridiculously easy to find email information because the reality is that they need story ideas! While this information is easy to locate, the research can take time. Keep reading?

LinkedIn

Just about anyone who is anyone is on LinkedIn now. You can use the Advanced Search feature to locate users by keywords, company name, publication name, or job title. If you?re not yet connected, you?ll need to either request an introduction from a mutual friend or pay to upgrade your LinkedIn account so that you can email contacts outside of your network. You can also track down a contact name, return to Google, and search for an email address.

Media Lists

You can skip all the time-consuming research and buy a media list. Two reputable sources: Bacon?s Media Directories or Gebbie Press (a more affordable choice).

Google

Use the search engine to search for media sources. For example, if you want to reach media in your old home town, you can search Google for ?newspaper Indianapolis,? ?news Indianapolis,? ?radio Indianapolis,? etc. You can also search for terms like ?list of weekly newspapers.? My search for that term turned up a list for Los Angeles (http://www.laalmanac.com/media/me04a.htm) and a comprehensive list (minus contact information) here: http://www.xpresspress.com/weekly-newspaper-media-list.

Be on the Lookout

Whether you?re surfing social media or reading a magazine in your doctor?s office lobby, keep an eye out for reporters who write about topics that relate to what you do. Most reporters have a specialty area of focus. If a reporter writes about the stock market, he probably won?t be writing about the latest in cake decorating. So find the reporters who can connect with your message and reach out. Even if you?re simply offering a compliment on a great story with a quick note that says you?re available as a source if the reporter writes a follow-up article, you have opened up a line of communication. It might sound crazy, but reporters have databases of contacts and you never know when you might rise from the archives.

Check back for part 3 of this series, where I?ll cover how to contact internet media sources!

The managed forex accounts could be the biggest market of the world; there is a huge quantity of positions traded just about every day, all-around 1 trillion pounds. Forex investing offers some advantages about other markets and financial investment possibilities that may allow it to be a viable option for lots of folks looking for a fantastic company possibility. But first we need to explain some myths.

one. Speculators are the undesirable men.

Its human character to blame some others. The speculators are classified as the scapegoat of desire when we talk about economical matters. The simple truth is theyve got no special strength; they can not affect the industry much more than every other participant can. If you need to be a forex trader you may need to grasp the theory that you simply are likely to make your living outside of speculation.

two. Forex buying and selling is risky enterprise.

Several folks feel currency trading is risky small business, and can hardly ever even give it an attempt. There is certainly the identical quantity of possibility involved in investing the forex scam as theres on everything else in lifestyle. Assuming that you are ready you can maintain your challenges underneath control. You would not dare to execute a surgery treatment without having planning would you?

three. The forex scam is often a rip-off.

Quite a few sellers promote holy grails in bulk. As soon as the holy grail fails who normally requires the blame? The industry!!! However, its true, there are lots of unregulated brokers that rob their shoppers, and 95% in the traders are losers. That does not imply that currency investing is a rip-off or which you cant financial gain from it.

four. You are able to trade twenty-four hours a day.

It is really correct the live forex charts is open up twenty-four hours a day. However traders ought to consider into consideration that there are durations should the market is lively and durations when it can be not. Knowing when will be the greatest time to trade is essential and should the real difference among profit or loss.

5. It is possible to accurately predict market moves.

In spite of of what some industry gurus want you to think you cant know, with 100% certainty, what the industry goes to complete, or when. The great news is that you just do not should know to possess a successful career being a forex trader. Trading is really a game of odds as well as your job is to hold the odds within your favor.

six. Sophisticated devices are better.

Several, self proclaimed, authorities want you to assume investing is complex; their job depends on that. There exists a major business that feeds on peoples fears and ignorance. When buying and selling the forex systems the considerably less is a bit more strategy will be the greatest 1. All your decisions ought to be according to basic principles. Knowing what to do on each and every situation is the variation in between gain and loss. It is best to in no way really feel dropped although trading.

7. Day investing is worthwhile.

Day trading can be very profitable for several; it can be profitable on your broker, for providers that market signals, and for a few program sellers. But when youre an individual trader, similar to me, day investing is likely to make you get rid of revenue.

Lots of people had been imagined, from childhood, the worth of exertions. Unfortunately this doesnt apply to investing. The live forex chart developments really well; the secret is to consider long-term.

eight. It is possible to trade the information.

Despite the fact that it really is accurate the information have some affect within the market place. There exists no strategy to know with 100% certainty how the marketplace will react to them. What route will it choose, and for how very long. On durations of substantial volatility, like as information frees, most brokers widen their spreads building it pretty hard for any individual to produce any profit.

nine. You need a great deal of income to trade currencies.

In contrast to other organization possibilities the currency investing is an extremely reasonably priced occupation. You dont really need to become a billionaire to trade the Forex Market. Among the major advantages of currency trading may be the minimum funds needed to open and fund your account. You could have the option to begin trading with only $10 dollars.

Family and fans took to Twitter Monday morning to share their sentiments about the late King of Pop on the third anniversary of his death.

Michael Jackson's fans haven't forgotten him. And neither has the King of Pop's little princess.

Early Monday morning, on the third anniversary of the music icon's death, Paris Jackson took to Twitter to pay tribute to her father's memory.

"RIP Michael Jackson," she wrote. "Dad you will be forever in my heart. I love you."

Earlier, she retweeted a message sent her way, reading, "The ones that love us never really leave us. You can always find them in here *heart*."

Unsurprisingly, Paris wasn't alone in paying tribute to her dad, as "RIP Michael Jackson" has been trending on Twitter all morning, with Michael's siblings also speaking out.

"3 yrs ago on this June 25th, my brother passed," Randy Jackson tweeted, adding that he planned on visiting Forest Lawn, where Michael is buried, later today.

"Sad morning all," La Toya Jackson wrote. "This day was the day that lead to the demise of my little brother. 'Michael We Love' May you RIP. Gone FAR To Soon."

In a day that will live in musical infamy, Jackson passed away on June 25, 2009, from cardiac arrest. He was 50.

Since it?s supposed to be a slow week, here?s an item that is best suited for consideration during a slow week.

Colts owner Jim Irsay has taken to Twitter to call me out personally for a joke included at the bottom of a Saturday item regarding Irsay?s position that marketing rights aren?t holding up an eventual contract with quarterback Andrew Luck.

Since most of the latest available pictures of Luck show him wearing a mortar board and a gown tied and draped over his shoulders like an Andy Bernard sweater, and given that the topic of the item was Luck?s marketing rights via the poorly-crafted tweets of Jim Irsay, I closed with this:? ?Luck likely will be free to endorse whatever he wants to endorse, including the use of images of his Stanford graduation to be included in a campaign for online courses aimed at teaching rich, middle-aged white guys how to type legibly on Twitter.?

It was a slap at Irsay?s notorious habit of oft-indecipherable Twitter messages, and using the term ?rich, middle-aged white guys? was aimed at describing Irsay?s overall demographic.

Irsay didn?t see it that way.? On Monday morning, Irsay started the debate with this:

Then, without a response, he said this:

I considered not taking the bait; after all, the guy owns an NFL team.? But like I mentioned above, it?s slow right now.? Also, I wasn?t entirely comfortable with the not-so-subtle effort to suggest that I expect only white people to type legible Twitter message.? (For the record, I expect everyone to type legibly on Twitter.)? Besides, Irsay asked a question.? The least I could do was answer it.

A loyal PFT reader (I knew there was at least one) thereafter responded to the kerfuffle. Irsay then replied to Wes LaFever?s tweet with this:

So, basically, Jim Irsay thinks I?m a racist and I don?t like old people (even though I?m now seven years into the legally-protected class of old people) and I don?t like rich people (even though I?d very much like to be one, someday).

Wow.? He really has cracked the code.

Now if only I could crack the code for interpreting 99.8 percent of his Twitter messages, this job would be a lot easier.

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) ? NATO will hold emergency talks on Tuesday to discuss Syria's downing of a Turkish jet fighter, but the alliance is not expected to take military action, even if it confirms Turkey's claim that the unarmed plane was attacked in international airspace.

The incident has further raised regional tensions over the conflict in Syria, where some 40 people were reported killed Sunday in new clashes between rebels and government troops.

On Sunday, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton sharply criticized Syria for downing the Turkish plane, which Turkey's Foreign Ministry called an "open and grave violation of international law" that would justify retaliation.

"The United States condemns this brazen and unacceptable act in the strongest possible terms," Clinton said in Washington. "It is yet another reflection of the Syrian authorities' callous disregard for international norms, human life, and peace and security."

Clinton said Washington will maintain close contact with Turkish officials as they determine their response, including via the U.N. Security Council. "We will work with Turkey and other partners to hold the Assad regime accountable," she said.

Turkish state media reported Sunday that the RF-4E reconnaissance plane's wreckage was found in the Mediterranean Sea at a depth of 4,265 feet (1,300 meters), but officials did not confirm the report. The two pilots remained missing.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said the jet was on a training flight to test Turkey's radar capabilities, not spying on Syria. He said the plane mistakenly strayed into Syrian airspace Friday, but was quickly warned to leave by Turkish authorities and was a mile (1.6 kms) inside international airspace when it was shot down.

Syria insisted Saturday that the shooting was "not an attack" and that the aircraft had violated its airspace. But Turkish authorities say Syria didn't warn the Turkish plane or send its own jets to confront it.

At the request of Turkey, NATO's governing body will meet Tuesday to discuss the incident, said Oana Lungescu, a NATO spokeswoman. The consultations were called under article 4 of NATO's founding Washington Treaty.

"Under article 4, any ally can request consultations whenever, in the opinion of any of them, their territorial integrity, political independence or security is threatened," Lungescu said. The North Atlantic Council ? the ambassadors of the 28 NATO countries ? will decide whether to respond, she said.

The last time article 4 was invoked was nine years ago ? also by Turkey ? after tensions with neighboring Iraq escalated. However, that case did not lead to the invocation of article 5, which declares that an attack against any single NATO country shall be considered as an attack against them all.

"No one should dare to test Turkey's capabilities," Davutoglu said Sunday.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was expected to make a statement Tuesday and might announce some retaliatory steps.

In a telephone interview with Turkish TV news channel A Haber on Saturday, Syrian Foreign Ministry spokesman Jihad Makdissi said the downing was "not an attack.""An unidentified object entered our air space and unfortunately as a result it was brought down. It was understood only later that it was a Turkish plane," A Haber quoted Makdissi as saying. "There was no hostile act against Turkey whatsoever. It was just an act of defense for our sovereignty."

Despite some opposition leaders' calls for Western military intervention in Syria, the U.S. and allies have been hesitant to get involved in what could prove a protracted conflict, preferring the diplomatic route. Syrian allies Russia and China have shielded Syria from U.N. sanctions and stridently oppose any military intervention.

It's unlikely the downing of the Turkish plane will change those calculations, despite Ankara's appeal for the NATO meeting.

In October 1989, two Syrian MiG-21s violated Turkish air space and shot down a Turkish plane on a geographical survey mission, killing all five crew members. Syria at the time promised to severely punish the pilots, who disregarded Turkish orders not to enter Turkish airspace.

Dogu Ergil, a professor of political science at the Ankara University, told private NTV television that Turkey had repeatedly sent its jets across the Syrian border for several weeks to show its military muscle at the time.

The plane's downing drew criticism from other countries pushing Syrian President Bashar Assad to end his crack down on an increasingly armed popular uprising. Opposition activists say the conflict has killed 14,000 people, mostly civilians, over the past 15 months.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague said Sunday he was "gravely concerned by the Syrian regime's action in shooting down" the plane.

"This outrageous act underlines how far beyond accepted behavior the Syrian regime has put itself, and I condemn it wholeheartedly," Hague said in a statement. "The Assad regime should not make the mistake of believing that it can act with impunity. It will be held to account for its behavior."

Hague met last week with U.N. and Arab League special envoy Kofi Annan for talks on plans for an international summit, while British officials discussed the issue in Geneva on Saturday with members of Annan's team. Hague noted Sunday that "the UK stands ready to pursue robust action at the United Nations Security Council."

Italy's foreign minister decried the shooting down of the plane as "a further, very grave and unacceptable action by the Assad regime." In a written statement, Giulio Terzi promised that Italy will play an active role in the NATO meeting Tuesday.

Syrian activists reported violence in different parts of the country Sunday, saying nearly 40 people were killed.

The deadliest incident was in the northern town of Ariha, where a shell hit a home killing seven members of the same family, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.? A video posted online showed the seven men's bodies, some badly mutilated, including one who had part of his head blown off.

Activists also reported intense shelling and clashes between rebels and troops in the eastern city of Deir el-Zour and the central city of Homs. Later in the day, Syria's state-run news agency SANA said gunmen kidnapped a pro-government Sunni cleric in the city of Deir el-Zour.

Earlier Sunday, activists said rebels captured a military base in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo, confiscating large amounts of ammunition. The Observatory said 16 government troops died in the attacks on the base near the rebel-held town of Daret Azzeh and nearby checkpoints early Sunday.

Area activist Mohammed Saeed said the rebels had removed hundreds of artillery shells from the base. Saeed added via Skype that troops retaliated with intense shelling on the area using helicopter gunships.

Syria's state-run SANA news agency, meanwhile, said gunmen from Turkey clashed with Syrian border guards in Rabiah, a region in the coastal Latakia province. SANA said several infiltrators died in the late Saturday clash, while others reportedly returned to Turkey. It said several Syrian border guards were hurt, but didn't specify how many.

Turkey denies sheltering armed Syrian rebels, although many Syrian refugees have fled to camps on the Turkish side of the border.

Why there is Guaranteed Success with Virtual PBX | Mobile Phone ...

Virtual PBX telephone systems enable businesses to connect with the outer world while strengthening internal communications. With the use of a computer and a business VoIP service, old telephone units are activated, lines are connected and phone numbers are given life. Also, the entire business telephone system is made available for various communication purposes. Cloud-based PBX can work better for businesses since it offers hassle-free and advanced features best for small and medium scale businesses. Simply put, this system works through a computer-centered program that manages all of the incoming and outgoing calls even without someone monitoring it.

Fully customizable auto attendant and easy dialing features

With a virtual PBX system, customers no longer need to wait for an available employee to answer their call. An auto attendant automatically answers incoming calls depending on your preference. You may choose to add a personalized greeting that will mark off the beginning of any incoming call, and use it as a way to entice more customers.

Since multiple telephone units can be connected to a single yet comprehensive business telephone system, extension numbers are assigned to each department. A computer-controlled communication system provides a dial-by-name directory or allows customized greetings where the caller is given options in dialing such as ?ress 1 if you want to buy? This way, it is easier for the caller to connect to a specific department of the company where his or her concerns will be addressed.

Automatic answering for fax messages and recording of calls

Difficulty in sending an important fax message due to a busy line does not apply to virtual PBX based telephone systems. Incoming fax messages, just like voice calls, are automatically answered in which fax message gets through without difficulty. You may opt to receive incoming fax messages through conventional fax machines or access them through the Internet as email. No more redials and busy tones?nly smooth connection and file transfers from fax to email and vice versa.

Managing and looking after the operations of your own company means getting an overview of what is happening in all aspects of the company. A business VoIP telephone system through virtual PBX allows you to do this by keeping a record of every incoming and outgoing call, voice message and fax message.

Call forwarding for seamless availability

From your own office to your home, your business calls can now find their way to you through a good business telephone system with advanced call forwarding options. Whenever you are out of town, in another country or staying at home because you are sick, you can still receive calls from clients or business contacts. Through the forwarding feature, all calls can be forwarded from your tollfree or local office number to your cellular phone or your home phone. You can also decide to activate your voice mail and have your callers leave important messages while you are busy taking care of other things. Either way, your connection to your customers is always in good hands with a virtual PBX system.

Air India pilots to go the Anna way

New Delhi:?After 47 days of strike that caused Air India a revenue loss of about Rs5.2 billion (Dh344 million), the pilots will now emulate Anna Hazare to fight injustice and pursue their demand by going on a fast from Sunday.

?We have received the mandatory clearances for going on a hunger strike. Eight members of our union will sit on fast from Sunday at Jantar Mantar here,? Rohit Kapahi, committee member of the Indian Pilots? Guild (IPG), told IANS.

?We along with our families will be there to support our colleagues. We want this strike to end, as soon as possible, but we will not come back to work till our 101 sacked colleagues are reinstated,? he said.

The Air India management earlier sacked the pilots belonging to the IPG, which struck work May 8 against the management move to train pilots from the erstwhile Indian Airlines in the merged entity on the soon-to-be-inducted Boeing-787 Dreamliner.

Article continues below

The pilots? announcement on their ?Anna-type? protest fast assumes significance as this will be one of the first instances in the country where highly paid professionals such as pilots will sit on a hunger strike.

?Our colleagues who are going on the hunger strike will be led by Captain Aditya Singh Dhillon who is a senior commander. We will also provide our pay slips and show the world that we earn as per the industry norms and that no astronomical pay is given to us," Kapahi said.

On June 6, Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh told the pilots that while the government was ready to look over their demands, the pilots would have to first call off the ?illegal strike?. At the same time, the airline has also started the process of hiring new pilots.

?We are not waiting for them forever. We earlier asked them [pilots] to come back and said that no one will be victimised. We had even given a chance to sacked pilots that they can also come back and we will take them back on a case-to-case basis,? the minister earlier told IANS.

?I have told them my stand, now they need to think,? Ajit Singh said.

The airline on its part has issued advertisements on its website for hiring new pilots for a contract of five years.

The advertisements called for both commanders and co-pilots, who can operate Boeing 777s, 747s and 737s. The applicants will have to go through an interview and flight simulator tests in Mumbai.

The hiring process will end July 23. Air India expects to hire nearly 100 pilots who, along with 90 more trainee pilots, meet the shortfall in the manpower.

However, experts say that it will take Air India nearly four-five months to get the trainee pilots trained as well as give orientation to the new joinees.

The airline?s fleet of Boeing?s ultra-long haul aircraft is being operated by executive pilots, who have complained of stress and fatigue. The executive pilots are not linked to the ongoing agitation.

Currently, the airline is operating only 38 of its original 45 services. Among the seven axed international destinations are Hong Kong, Osaka, Seoul and Toronto.

Seagrass could help coral reefs

Research headed by a Swansea University marine biologist has offered potential solution to endangered coral reefs around the world's oceans.

Dr Richard Unsworth's team included scientists from Oxford University and James Cook University in Australia.

They found varieties of seagrass which may reduce the acidity of water around reefs, protecting them from erosion.

Corals are worm-like creatures of around a centimetre length which live in colonies numbering millions.

Calcium carbonate released by the corals forms a protective reef around the entire group.

The survival of these corals has been threatened by carbon dioxide in the atmosphere over the last 40 years, as it has raised the acidity of the oceans, rotting the reefs in the same way as fruit and fizzy drinks can erode tooth enamel.

But now Dr Unsworth believes he has found varieties of seagrass which can photosynthesise carbon dioxide so quickly and efficiently that they actually turn the surrounding water more alkaline.

"Highly productive tropical seagrasses often live adjacent to or among coral reefs and photosynthesise at such rates you can see the oxygen they produce practically bubbling away," he said.

"We wanted to understand whether this could be a major local influence on seawater and the problems of ocean acidification."

"Rising atmospheric carbon dioxide in the air, primarily from human fossil fuel combustion, reduces ocean pH and causes wholesale shifts in seawater carbonate chemistry.

"Over long term time scales, this change in seawater carbonate chemistry is likely to cause coral reefs to start to disappear as the rate of erosion starts to exceed growth rates."

Dr Unsworth said not only are coral reefs intrinsically valuable in their own right, but they provide natural fishing lagoons and sea defences for millions of people, mostly living on small islands in the South Pacific.

The team's findings are published in this month's edition of the science journal, 'Open Access Environmental Research Letters', and Dr Unsworth is due to give a presentation on 10 July at the 12th coral preservation symposium in Cairns, Australia.

But he warned that unless action is taken to protect them, then seagrass itself could be under threat from human activity such as over-fishing, chemical pollution and climate-change.

Hidden- Song Fic for "Blinding"

Hidden

A smile danced across the girl's lips as she soared towards the sky. She dared to release her grip on the chain in her right hand and reach for the endless sea of blue above her, above everything she'd ever known.

Her father continued to push his daughter forward on the swing. It wasn't quite monotonous, but the action and joy of his daughter could not keep his thoughts at bay. Weeks ago, the family's elder daughter had run off in some sort of bid for fame, adventure, and most of all, romance.

Anything could happen out there in such a dangerous and insecure world. Both parents had become consumed by the what ifs their precious daughter might face. It caused an ever downward spiral of worries.

The little girl was suddenly crying, breaking the father away from his thoughts. He rushed over to where the girl sat on the ground, tears falling down her round cheeks. He knew that she had let go and attempted to jump from the swing.

The little girl looked up at her father with a quivering lip and innocent hazel eyes. "I was trying to fly like all of the birds in the sky," she replied. The girl had always wanted to be a bird, or an angel. She decided then that was what she would be later in life, an angel that would help others in desperate need of assistance.

"Let's go get cleaned up for dinner," her father said, sighing. He offered out his hand, which she took. Her small hand was enclosed in his as they walked to the small house at the top of the hill.

Closed. Why was the door always closed at night? What was there to keep out if the little girl was to be in bed, sleeping and dreaming of love, luck, and lollipops?

The pads of the girl's finger tips reached for the doorknob, settling on the cool, shiny metal that was taller than her. She found herself preparing to open the door, her brain, muscles and nerves processing the action.

Yet something was holding her back, like a spell had been cast on her by a wandering fairy. The little girl paused, and realized that she hadn't entered because there were voices. They were hushed and quick, but easily recognizable to her.

"Just a bit longer..." her mother pleaded.

"She's dead!" The father's sudden and violent shout startled the mother and young girl.

After the initial shock, all three found their ears ringing. The haunting words repeated themselves in the heads of the family, until a fraction of their meaning could be captured. Despite knowing this, the parents still trembled at the simple words.

A daughter, a sister, a friend, was dead. The word gave a numbing sense by itself, but also inspired something more.

"We can't tell her!" A flood of anger enveloped the mother as she began screaming words the child hadn't known existed.

Four letter words that others were not suppose to say came spewing out, but the child could have never known that. She hadn't been told that there were bad words and bad people out there. She had grown up, an innocent flower sheltered from the cruel reality of the crimes humanity committed every day, hour, and minute.

The small girl recoiled as if the door knob had burned her. Warm tears were forming in her eyes as she rushed blindly up the steps towards her room.

She ran with her head down, her long strawberry blonde hair in her face. She found herself racing an invisible foe to her room at the end of the hall. Somehow though, she knew that she wouldn't win. Without the positive attitude others depended on, she dropped onto the wooden floor.

Moments later, a grieving mother and father came to her aid. Both were on their knees, looking down at the precious girl who they were trying to desperately to protect. But how can one protect another when their own fears have been realized and published like a reality show in real time?

"Honey," her mother began in a shaky and fragile voice. Her face was pale and it looked as though she might atop breathing at any moment.

"Sh-she's dead. I heard him say it!" The girl's words came out in sputters and gasps as she tried to keep herself in check.

The two adults looked at each other, their faces draining of what little color was left. It did not occur to them that she would be up at this hour, let alone eavesdropping by their door. She was always the responsible one of the sisters, the one who washed her hands before dinner and helped clean around the house. This little girl was the one who had assured them that their daughter- her sister, would be ok. Yet here she was, on the floor in tears.

The father opened his mouth to say something, anything really, but found that his words were whisked away without warning. Lying was out of the question now.

"Just go back to sleep dear. We can discuss this in the morning."

But their little girl remained where she was, shaking in her oversized shirt and old sweatpants. This could not wait until the morning.

"You said it yourself that she's dead. How am I supposed to go on knowing that my sister is dead, knowing that I was lied to!" The girl exploded with anger and bitter hatred for what her parents had done. They'd betrayed her, left her in the dust. "What else aren't you telling me?"

The mother looked helplessly as her little girl transformed into what she truly was- a young teenager. She was not the six year old girl they had been holding onto for the past few years. She was growing, learning, and adapting to these new challenges. Whether that was beneficial or not could be discussed later.

"She's dead," the teenager's mother said without much emotion.

Looking worn out and years older, she pleaded with her daughter to forgive them. It was for her sake and protection they had kept the death a secret. Stress was high enough with school work and the constant longing she knew her daughter felt for a relationship.

"Those aren't excuses. You give me crap about lying or forgetting to turn off a light, but here we are and you didn't even tell me that my own sister is dead!" Her voice was rising, anger overcoming sorrow. A roll of thunder could be heard outside, indicating a storm. But the true terror was here and now, in a suburban home with only three members now.

"Maybe she ran off because she knew something that I still don't." The daughter instantly regretted her words, bringing even more internal turmoil. But she couldn't stop now, she couldn't hide her truths any longer.

"I don't blame her either. You've treated me like I'm some glass vase but I'm not. I want to have just one day where I'm not five years old in your heads. I hate having you tell me what to do to make you happy, but then you aren't happy enough. I guess I'm just a complication in your perfect little fairy tale.

"I am not Emmeline! I am me and I am not your key to happiness. I'm not a story you can use to avoid the real world and all the perverts in it. I can't bring my sister back to life as much as I want to."

The girl turned and walked to her door, tears streaming down her face. She opened it, then stepped inside before turning to her parents for one last hurrah.

"No more dreaming. It's time to wake up and face the real world."
