7-Month-Old Boy's Death Ruled Baltimore's 1st Homicide Of 2013 ...

BALTIMORE?(WJZ)? The first homicide of the year in Baltimore is a seven-month-old boy. Police say he spent several days on life support before dying. Monique Griego has details on the case.

Police say the baby died from severe head trauma. Police have arrested the boy?s father, Francois Browne. Browne is 29. He?s been charged with first degree murder. Police say they believe he was alone with the baby when the injuries occurred. They don?t believe any other family members were involved.

On New Year?s Eve, police say seven-month-old Kendall Browne was beaten so badly, the infant spent several days on life support before dying on Thursday.

Those who knew the baby and his family are shocked that his death was ruled a homicide.

?It?s devastating. That?s really terrible,? said one neighbor.

?It?s scary to know that someone would do that to a baby,? said Kim Chambers.

Police haven?t released many details.

Investigators haven?t said what the baby was doing at that house because he lived at an apartment across town with his mother.

Kim Chambers is their landlord.

?I?ve always seen her interact with the kids; kids were fine. I?ve never seen any problem,? Chambers said.

Chambers does not believe Browne?s mother was with him when the injuries occurred and says the boy?s mother is struggling to deal with what happened.

?Upset, just concerned, just real upset,? Chambers said.

Neighbors also can?t believe the baby won?t be coming home.

?It?s hard. You know, I have children and grandchildren and it?s hard,? a neighbor said.

Detectives from homicide and the child abuse unit are working with the state?s attorney?s office on this case.
